Do many women work after they marry?

Even in Japan it has been many years since women were expected to quit their jobs upon marriage, a maternity leave system has been established, and the number of women continuing to work after having children has increased.
In fact, of the 21,650,000 working women in 2002, 57% were married.
In 1975, the number of women in employment was approximately 11,600,000, so the number of women working has virtually doubled in the last 25 years.
Even back then though, 60% of those women were married.
