What is the difference between typhoons and hurricanes?

A typhoon is a tropical cyclone that develops in the western part of the North Pacific Ocean, and refers to a rainstorm with a maximum wind speed of over 17.2 meters per second.
The origin of the word typhoon is said to have come from the Chinese word taifung, which means big wind.
A hurricane is a tropical cyclone that develops in the North Atlantic Ocean or the Indian Ocean, and is defined as a rainstorm with a maximum wind speed of over 32.7 meters per second.
The nature of typhoons and hurricanes is basically the same, alhough they differ in the place they are horn and the way their wind speed is defined.
